PD Incumbents Brenda Konkel, Austin King, Brian Benford, Judy Olson, and Robbie Webber all decisively won their re-election campaigns. These same PD endorsed alders who fought hard for a living wage, smoking ban, and affordable housing will be on the council for 2 more years. They all look forward to continuing to fight for progressive values.
Although candidates Sarah King, Lori Nitzel, Lisa Subeck and Chris Kratochwill ran spirited campaigns, they fell short of the votes they needed to win. The council, however, saw a general move to the left. PD looks forward to working in the next 2 years to spearhead new initiatives to continue to advance an agenda which will help Madison remain one of the most progressive cities in the United States.
PD endorsed candidates ran positive campaigns even as they were heavily outspent and some faced negative charges from their opponents and very negative mailings from a front group funded by the Dane County Democratic Party and AFSCME (check out our blog entry from the 'In The News' section). We commend the energy they put into connecting directly with constituents in their district. We look forward to seeing many of these candidates help shape Madison's progressive agenda for the future.
This election cycle brought a great deal of new energy to Progressive Dane and the entire organization is excited to move forward with the fresh ideas and determination of its expanding membership.
Come celebrate all the hard work volunteers and candidates put into this past spring election. There will be wacky awards, crazy campaign stories, and a chance to relax and reminisce with friends. The party is on 4/30 at the High Noon Saloon - 701 E. Washington Ave.
