Progressive Dane needs volunteers to help work at our information booth at the Juneteenth Festival this Saturday, June 17 in Penn Park.
We need volunteers to fill the following shifts:
noon - 1:30 p.m.
1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.
3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future.
This is an easy and fun way to help out Progressive Dane - by passing
out literature, answering basic questions about PD, and taking down contact information from interested folks. Don't worry if you aren't sure you know enough about Progressive Dane to volunteer - all volunteers will be paired with an experienced PD member.
Call Laura Newman at 257-4985 or contact Progressive Dane sign up.
