Spring 2007 Election Season - Things to Look Forward to
So as not to disappoint, we have a ton of things going on this spring. In addition to the individual campaigns of our endorsed City Council and School Board candidates, the organization has much we are trying to accomplish. Here's a few things to put on your calendar.
- Additional Endorsements. On Sunday, January 21st starting at 10 am we will be doing additional interviews for the Passman/Cole School Board Race and other City Council seats. Likely interviews will be Mike Verveer plus candidates in district 8 (King), 10 (Golden), 17 (Rosas) and 18 (VanRooy) and Mayoral candidate Peter Munoz has asked to talk to us. All members welcome to join the elections committee (and vote on the recommendations) at the Social Justice Center. The General Membership will vote on endorsements at the General Membership meeting on Wednesday, January 24th at 6:30 at the Downtown Public Library.
- Additional Campaign School. Depending upon the needs of the campaigns and any additional endorsements, we may be holding an additional campaign school on Saturday, January 27th from 10 am - 2 pm. If you are interested in getting involved in a campaign or learning the overview of how a campaign is run, please feel free to attend. Contact Brenda Konkel at 345-8720 or brendakonkel(at)yahoo(dot)com to express interest as we decide whether to hold the training or not.
- Campaign Fundraiser. This year, our Elections Fundraiser
will be held at the High Noon Saloon on Tuesday, January 30th from 5 - 7. Entertainment this year will include the band our very own Tim Gruber plays in Atimevu Drum and Dance. Check your mail for more details. Click here to make an online donation to the PD Elections Fund.
- Mayoral Debate. Mark you calendars, we will be hosting a mayoral debate on February 7th at 6:30 at the Warner Park Recreation Center. Please submit a question/topic to the Mayoral Debate by clicking here
- Volunteers needed. If you're interested in working on a campaign team this spring, contact Michael Jacob at michaeljacobdc(at)gmail(dot)com or 712-5475 or Brenda Konkel at brendakonkel(at)yahoo(dot)com or 345-8720. If you're interested in volunteering for lit drops and mailings, and haven't been called yet by various campaigns, contact Ron Richardson at 256-7144
So, don't hesitate to get involved this spring, we can use all the help we can get to make our schools better and our city a great place to be.
