Please sponsor the Garden Party

Progressive Dane's summer party is coming up on July 20. Will you be a sponsor?

Even though state and national politics take up most of the headlines, local government issues matter deeply in our daily lives. If we work together, it's in our power to assure clean government, just and equitable social institutions, affordable housing, sensible land use policies, and many other civic arrangements that make life better both for ourselves and for people who are more vulnerable. Progressive Dane exists to make that common work easier.

Our fund-raisers (just two per year, plus a campaign fund event) are an essential part of our overall budget: they help to pay our rent, telephone, and web-site costs, publish our newsletter, and support one (soon to be two) very part-time staff. They free up our volunteers to work on issues in our platforms, policy development, legislation, and community outreach.

We'd like to raise $2,500 in July. $25 or more from you will help get us there.

Please consider contributing online at http://www.prodane.org/get_involved/online/ or sending your check to Progressive Dane, P.O. Box 1222, Madison WI 53701. You can also contact Progressive Dane if you would like to sponsor and be listed on the invitation and intend to pay at a later time. The deadline to be listed as a sponsor is Saturday June 30.

If you can't sponsor, you're still invited! Enjoy snacks, cool beverages, and good conversation at the Garden Party, 5:30-7:30, Friday July 20, at the home of Carol Weidel and Dan Roberts, 1237 East Dayton St. Madison.

Listen to PD on the MIC 92.1

Tune in to Lee Rayburn's show on the Mic 92.1 this week to hear PD members Michael Jacob, Brenda Konkel and Vicky Selkowe give updates on two ordinances working their way through the Madison Common Council. On Tuesday, 6/12, at 7am, Michael shared his thoughts as chair of PD's Elections Committee and a member of the City's Ethics Board about Alder Zach Brandon's ordinance to prohibit people from being poll workers which is coming before the City's Elections Committee Tuesday night.

Then, moving away from elections and into a discussion of problem properties & unresponsive landlords, Alder and PD Housing Committee Chair Brenda Konkel will kick off a two-part discussion about the proposed "chronic nuisance" ordinance on Thursday morning at 7am, in advance of the Madison EOC's likely vote on the ordinance Thursday night. Then, bright & early Friday morning (7am), PD Media Committee member and EOC Commissioner Vicky Selkowe will share what the EOC decided about the ordinance the night before.
