MADISON –Twenty members of the Dane County Board on Monday signed a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama asking that he press forward with a national health care reform package that includes a public option.
The letter also requested that any reform package include an employer mandate to provide health insurance coverage, and exclude taxation of health care benefits.
Supervisors signing the letter included Dane County Board Chair Scott McDonell, First Vice Chair John Hendrick, and Second Vice Chair Sheila Stubbs, who also chairs the Board’s Health and Human Needs Committee.
“Millions and millions of U.S. residents do not have access to regular health care because of the system we tolerate now,” said Supervisor Kyle Richmond. “The resulting tangential costs created for local government, especially in the area of human services, are great. We need a serious change in the system in 2009.”
