Save Our Services Rally October 1

Join the Save Our Services Rally October 1st at 5 p.m. at the State St corner of the State Capitol.

The state budget passed in July slashes aid to schools, local governments, and state agencies. There is an alternative. Rescind the tax cuts on corporations and wealthy people. Close the loopholes that let large, profitable companies pay no state income tax. Pretty soon you’re talking real money!

Speakers are Arlene Silveira (Madison School Board), John Hendrick (Dane Co. Supervisor), Peter Rickman (President of the TAA) and Jim Cavanaugh from the South Central Federation of Labor (SCFL).

We thank AFSCME 171 for initiating the event.

Endorsers include AFSCME 68, SCFL, ISO, Union of Immigrant Workers,
Progressive Dane, Madison Area Peace Coalition.

More information on tax fairness can be found in the reports of The Institute for Wisconsin's Future, www.wisconsinsfuture.org.

Dane Co. Supervisor Richmond: 20 Dane County supervisors request the president include a public option in national health care reform bill

Septebmer 8, 2009

Contact: Supervisor Kyle Richmond, 608-251-3171

MADISON –Twenty members of the Dane County Board on Monday signed a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama asking that he press forward with a national health care reform package that includes a public option.

The letter also requested that any reform package include an employer mandate to provide health insurance coverage, and exclude taxation of health care benefits.

Supervisors signing the letter included Dane County Board Chair Scott McDonell, First Vice Chair John Hendrick, and Second Vice Chair Sheila Stubbs, who also chairs the Board’s Health and Human Needs Committee.

“Millions and millions of U.S. residents do not have access to regular health care because of the system we tolerate now,” said Supervisor Kyle Richmond. “The resulting tangential costs created for local government, especially in the area of human services, are great. We need a serious change in the system in 2009.”
