Each week, after consulting some of our elected officials, we will post one action you can take - typically going to a meeting and supporting their work - that will also support the goals in our platforms. Many people are talking about how with president-elect Trump, we need to double down on our actions locally. And we're here to help figure out what you can do!
This week's action is tonight!
WHO: You! And the Madison School Board.
WHAT: The first citizen oversight committee of any kinds since Jen Cheatam arrived in the district! Looking at the contract with the Madison Police Department! What will it look like, what will it do? Special Board of Education Meeting in Open Session WORKSHOP
WHEN: 6:15 tonight! Monday, December 5th.
WHERE: Doyle Administration Building, 545 West Dayton Street, Room 103
WHY: Progressive Dane has been working on policing issues for quite some time, but has been more involved since the shooting of Tony Robinson. Our platforms call for us to be scrutinizing police policies and making sure that we are not over-policing some populations that lead to increased disparities in arrest rates. Schools should be handling school discipline issues, we should not be criminalizing school disciplinary actions.
Here's the agenda for the meeting, and the specific Item: Establishment of Education Resource Officer (ERO) Ad Hoc Committee
